What to do in Lefkada Town

The Town of Lefkada has a unique, characteristic architecture which was strongly influenced by the Venetian Occupation. There are many worth-visiting sights such as the Archaeological Museum and the Castle of Santa Maura, which are both located near Lefkada’s wonderful port. Stroll around its amazingly beautiful paved streets and explore it thoroughly! As you walk around, you will encounter many traditional taverns and restaurants. In there, you can taste Lefkada’s delicious, local cuisine. When in Lefkada, definitely taste traditional recipes such as “egg pie” and “rizopita” (rice pie) and of course, mouth-watering recipes with Lefkada’s tasty fresh fish! Along the beautiful port, there are plenty of nice bars and clubs and in fact, Lefkada Town is known for its vivid nightlife. If you like sports, you can go for windsurfing in the alluring beach of Agios Ioannis. There are many frequent bus itineraries from Lefkada Town to other popular villages and beaches around this stunning island. How to get in Lefkada Town

- From Athens: If you are planning on departing from Athens, you should know that there are three to four buses that depart from Athens to Lefkada on a daily basis.These buses depart from the Kifissos bus station (also known as “Kifissos Ktel”). Lefkada is relatively close to Athens, thus the trip lasts only about five hours. If you prefer traveling from Athens to Lefkada by car, you should take the “National Highway” from Athens to Corinth and Patras. Then, you should cross the longest cable-stayed bridge in Greece, the bridge of Rio-Antirrio. You should later continue to up to Amfilochia and carefully follow the signs to Vonitsa-Lefkada.
- From Thessaloniki: In summer, there are frequent and daily buses from the lovely Thessaloniki to Lefkada Town. If you prefer to drive from Thessaloniki to Lefkada, you should take the “Egnatia Highway” from Thessaloniki to Igoumenitsa and then, continue driving to Preveza and Lefkada.
- From Igoumenitsa: In summer, there are daily, regular buses from Igoumenitsa to Lefkada, but, if you wish to drive instead from Igoumenitsa to Lefkada, you should follow the road to Preveza and then, you should take a turn to Aktion-Lefkada.
- From Aktion Airport: There are local buses from the airport of Aktion to Lefkada Town each and every time a flight arrives in there. Lefkada Town is located really close to the airport of Aktion; the bus trip lasts only about 20 minutes.
