Lefkada is a small, but very popular island of the Ionian complex. It is easily accessible from the mainland of Greece by car through a small bridge. Like most Ionian Islands, Lefkada has kept intact its authentic character, traditional life and natural environment. As Lefkada is centrally located in the Ionian Sea, it offers great chances for hopping to other close islands. Island hopping from Lefkada is easy because it has daily ferry connections with neighbouring Ionian islands, such as Kefalonia and Ithaca. There are two ports in Lefkada island, Vassiliki and Nidri, that serve itineraries to other Ionian islands all summer long. In summer, there are daily car ferry boats, operated by West Ferry, from Vassiliki port in Lefkada to Fiscardo port in Kefalonia. Occasionally there are also winter ferries between these two islands, departing from Nidri port in Lefkada, reaching again Fiscardo. Kefalonia island distinguishes for its beautiful nature and the stunning beaches. In particular, the beaches of Myrtos and Antisamos are among the most photographed beaches in Greece. What is also very interesting are the many caves of the island, such as Melissani Lake Cave that can be explored by boat and the Cave of Drogarati with the many stalactites and stalagmites.
From Lefkada to Ithaca
Island hopping from Lefkada to Ithaca For a more alternative type of holidays, hop from Lefkada to the tiny island of Ithaca, famous as the birthplace of the legendary Odysseus. In summer, ferries depart daily from Vassiliki port of Lefkada to Frikes port in Ithaca. Ithaca is a peaceful, untouched island with a multitude of exotic sceneries and impressive landscapes. Although most of the island is green and mountainous, creating the perfect conditions for hiking and mountain biking, there are also numerous beaches that vary in style. The most popular beaches include Filiatro, Sarakiniko and Gidaki.
From Lefkada to Meganisi
Island hopping from Lefkada to Meganisi Island hopping from Lefkada can also take you to the picturesque island of Meganisi. The island is geographically located between Lefkada and the mainland of Greece and it is easily accessible from the port of Nidri. There are ferries from Nidri Lefkada to the ports of Spartochori and Vathy in Meganisi that depart 3-4 times per day. Vathy is the most scenic village of the island, where you can enjoy fantastic beaches, romantic walks along the promenade and dine traditionally in the excellent fish taverns. Vathy port even receives many private yachts in summer. Meganisi is a wonderful island for relaxing holidays away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. Stunning sandy or rocky beaches, impressive caves and pretty villages await for you to discover them.
