The combination of dramatic landscapes, soft sand and exotic waters have made Lefkada beaches internationally famous for their beauty. The island offers something for every taste. On the west side of Lefkada island, the long stretches of sand running below the sheer cliffs create a wonderful landscape to admire. On the other side, the protected coves and bays on the eastern side of Lefkada have calm, warm waters that are ideal for families and children.
Many beaches on the island are well organized, with seafront taverns, bars, and lined up with cozy Lefkada studios, while others are more secluded and quiet. Here is a guide to some of the best Lefkada beaches you can visit.
Famous and exotic: Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Kathisma
Located on the western side of Lefkada, Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Kathisma are some of the most well-known beaches on the island. Kathisma is a large expanse of white pebbly sand with deep blue waters. It is one of the most easily accessible beaches in Lefkada and one of the best organized, with many water sports facilities, beach bars, lounges and umbrellas.
Porto Katsiki and Egremni are located south of Kathisma and are two of the most impressive Lefkada beaches. Visitors have to climb down steps built into cliffs to reach these beaches. With white sand and azure waters surrounded by steep cliffs, Porto Katsiki and Egremni are two of the most scenic locations in Lefkada. These Lefkada beaches can also be reached by boat from the port of Nidri.
For wind and kitesurfing: Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki
On the southern side of Lefkada, Vassiliki is one of the busiest villages on the island. The beach of Vassiliki is very popular with windsurfers, and it is classed amongst the three top places in Europe for windsurfing and kitesurfing. There are many modern water sports centers and surf clubs in Vassiliki that offer courses and rent the necessary equipment.
Agios Ioannis beach is located on the northern side of the island, and this is also a beloved destination for wind and kite surfers. The clear waters and strong northern winds make it ideal for surfing in Lefkada, while the golden sand and traditional windmills dotted around the area create an incredible backdrop.
For naturists: Mylos and Tsoukalades
Mylos and Tsoukalades are two of the most secluded Lefkada beaches, away from large crowds. Mylos is not easily accessible, reached only by foot through a scenic path. Tsoukalades is easier to reach, but it is as secluded as Mylos. Because of the remote nature of these places, Mylos and Tsoukalades are both frequented by nudists, like many other Lefkada beaches.
